FOSSEE club in Association with IIT Bombay

Empowering Education through Open Source

Join FOSSEE, Transforming the Future!
Shree L .R. Tiwari College of Engineering, as an institute encourage and prepare students to participate in open source community as a contributor.

Promoting Open Source Education for a Better Future

FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project promotes the use of FLOSS tools to improve the quality of education in our country. We aim to reduce dependency on proprietary software in educational institutions. We encourage the use of FLOSS tools through various activities to ensure commercial software is replaced by equivalent FLOSS tools.

FOSSEE Club

Building a Community of Open Source Enthusiasts
FOSSEE Club in our institution that will promote and contribute to the various activities of the FOSSEE project. The club can also participate in FOSSEE workshops, conferences apart from these activities subject to that the event is based on any one of the software promoted by the FOSSEE Project.

BENEFITS OF FOSSEE

Advancing Education through FOSSEE Initiatives

Textbook Companion

Enriching Education with Open Source
The Textbook Companion (TBC) activity aims to port solved examples from standard textbooks using a Free/Libre and Open source software

Lab Migration

Embracing FLOSS in Educational Labs
Lab Migration aims to migrate labs that use proprietary software to a Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) only lab. Colleges can save a large amount of money that is spent on procuring licenses for commercial software by switching to FLOSS.

List of Events Conducted

FOSSEE Converge: Uniting Minds, Empowering Open Source Education

Time: 9:30 am onward
Venue: FC Kohli Auditorium, IIT Bombay.

This event aims to create awareness about open-source software, its benefits, and how one can contribute to the open-source community. This event is exclusively for the faculty of Mumbai University to exposure to various open source software of different steams.

Objectives: The course aims to train students/college teachers/design professionals to solve computational fluid dynamics (CFD) problems while understanding the intricacies involved in such simulations through a robust at the same time easy-to-use CFD toolbox. At the end of this workshop, participants will:
  • Learn how to set up, view the files and run a case in OpenFOAM
  • Become familiar with pre-processing tools and will be able to generate mesh, set the boundary & initial conditions, learn simulation control, etc.
  • Learn how to plot and visualize the results in ParaView.
  • Learn how to use different flow and heat transfer models (laminar, turbulence model, convection, conduction, etc) in a simulation.
  • Learn how to establish grid independence.
Benefits of Workshop: On successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to :
  • Learn fundamentals of CFD using OpenFOAM
  • Learn to simulate flow and heat transfer problems in OpenFOAM
  • Learn essentials of post-processing
  • Certificate for attending the 3-day OpenFOAM workshop
