Introduction : In December 1970, the name Indian Geotechnical Society was established. In January 1994 it hosted the 13th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ICSMGE). The society celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2008 and racing towards Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The Secretariat of the Society started functioning from its own house since 1996, after operating for a number of years from the premises of CBIP, Institution of Engineers Delhi Centre, IIT Delhi and CSMRS. The regular Conferences popularly known as Indian Geotechnical Conferences (IGCs) started in the year 1983.The Society not only had the distinction of hosting prestigious 13th ICSMGE in the year 1994 at New Delhi.
